Donna Marguerite (Sproat) Bonner

Our Mom, Donna Marguerite Bonner passed away on July 14, 2017 at Birch Lodge in Hamiota, MB at the age of 84.

Mom was the only child of George and Grace Sproat, born July 23, 1932 in Virden MB. Virden was her home where she was raised and educated. She attended River Valley School in the Assiniboine Valley east of Virden, high school in Virden and then on to Normal School in Winnipeg (1951).

Mom taught for 2 years (1951-1953) in Arrow River where she met her future husband, Joseph William Bonner. They were married on October 24, 1953 and farmed west of Arrow River for 35 years until Dad’s passing in 1988. Mom and Dad raised 4 children on the farm - Sandra (Bill) Standish, Kathy (Brian) Sieben, Murray Bonner, and Kevin (Carol) Bonner.

After Dad died, Mom moved to Miniota where she lived for 29 years – the last two years being in the Parkissimo Lodge.

All her life, Mom was active in the community and willing to lend a helping hand. This involved anything from being President of the W.I. for many years to baking her famous “Donna Bonners’ Buns” for functions. Music festivals, fowl suppers, church and choir activities, traveling to hockey tournaments and curling bonspiels kept Mom busy along with farm duties.

Along with W.I., Mom was a long time member of the U.C.W. and the Arrow River Women’s Group.

Her interests varied from curling (as a participant and a spectator) to reading, baking, playing scrabble, doing crosswords and crypto quip. However, her favorite pastime was playing cards with whoever was interested.

Time with family and friends was always cherished. Mom enjoyed hearing of her grandkids achievements and visiting with them whenever possible – Ainsley (Jonas) Haurdahl, Kent (Sarah) Standish, Brett, Daniel and Evan Sieben, Courtney Bonner (fiance Kendel Jaworski).

Step grandchildren, Daryl (Beckie) McLeod, Bobby (fiancée Baylee Gabrielle) McLeod, Lacey (Kevin) Rudulier, and their daughter Stella.

A service to celebrate Donna’s life will be held at 2 PM on Friday August 25, 2017 at Miniota United Church.  Interment at Arrow River Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Parkissimo Lodge, Miniota MB, R0M 1M0 or Miniota United Church Memorial Fund, Miniota MB R0M 1M0.
