RAMSEY: Robert John passed away in his 91st year on June 24, 2017 in Birch Lodge PCH, Hamiota Manitoba.

Bob was predeceased by his parents John and Jeannie Ramsey, his sisters Mable Wright and Gladys Pollock (Harold) and his brother Lyle. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Dorothy (Lints); his 4 sons Ron (Jo Ann) of Hamiota, Don (Suzan) of Rivers, Wayne (Melva) of Cardale and Cam (Shelley) of Oak River; grandchildren Brett (Terrin), Cali, Lexa, Carrie (Darren), Robbin (Corey), Matthew (Sarah), Craig, and Marty (Kaitlyn); plus 13 great grandchildren. Also left to mourn are Dan and Roberta Ramsey, their children Jennifer (Kevin) Charles and James (Jana) Ramsey and their families, brother - in - law Herb Wright, sister – in - law Helen Ramsey and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was born July 26, 1926 in Rasharkin, County Antrim in Northern Ireland and came to Canada with his parents in 1928. The family moved to the farm north of Oak River in 1931. Bob and Dorothy moved off the farm and retired to Oak River in 1988 and then to Hamiota in 2010. Bob moved to Birch Lodge PCH in 2013. In his almost 4 ½ years there, the staff made it his home.

He loved his family, his community, and the land. He coached his boys in hockey and baseball and loved following his grandchildren’s activities.  Bob was a Boy Scout leader, a Lion, a member of the Oak River Legion for 70 years, worked in the Oak River Quick Freeze for over 20 years, served on the Oak River rink board and was an active ball player and curler. Although not actually old enough, he enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1944. Bob successfully farmed for over 60 years. He also really loved people.

A highlight for Bob was being inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame as a player with the McConnell Baseball Teams of 1949 to 1954.                    .

Bob was loved and respected by his family and many friends and will be dearly missed.

Officiant Linda Clark gave a fitting tribute to Bob at the funeral service held Wednesday, June 28 in the Oak River United Church. Interment was in the Oak River Cemetery. Donations can be made in Bob’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or to a charity of one’s choice.
