Richard "Dick" Longstaff Obituary

Richard "Dick" Longstaff, a cherished member of the Cardale community, passed away peacefully in Hamiota on July 16, 2024, at the age of 71, in the same small Manitoba town where his story began. Born on January 3, 1953, to William and Peggy Longstaff, Dick's life was one of dedication, laughter, and ingenuity.

Growing up in Cardale, Dick was the beloved brother to Alison, Bruce, Roy, and Don. His early years on the family farm instilled in him a love for the land and the community that he would carry throughout his life. After completing his education, Dick followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a respected grain farmer.

Dick's life was enriched by his marriage to Janice, his devoted wife, with whom he shared the joys and challenges of rural life. Together, they raised two daughters, Stacey and Ashley, who inherited their father's humor, creativity, and passion for nature.

A man of many interests, Dick was an avid enthusiast of WWII aircraft and world history, often found with his nose in a book or sharing little-known historical facts with anyone who would listen. His love for classic cars, bird watching, and the great outdoors was evident to all who knew him.

Those who knew Dick will remember him as a man who could always be counted on for a funny story, a piece of sage advice, or a helping hand. His legacy is one of laughter, wisdom, and creativity, traits that he generously shared with his family, friends, and community.

As we bid farewell to Dick Longstaff, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him and in the fields of Cardale that he so tenderly cared for. Dick's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who walk the paths he once did.

A private Celebration of Life service will be held and interment will take place at the Rapid City Cemetery.
