Olive Lydia Wickhueller passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Saskatoon, SK in 1934, she spent most of her life in Montréal, in the borough of Pierrefonds, where she found much joy and peace living next to the Rapides du Cheval Blanc.
Olive had a deep appreciation for nature and a lifelong love of gardening. Her flowerbeds were filled with vibrant colours and scents, and she tended them with care and dedication. Guided by her passion for nature, Olive played a key role in the community effort to preserve the shoreline green spaces along the Rapides du Cheval Blanc. She was also proud of her long career, working well into her 70s as office manager for a laser equipment company supplying the surveying and construction industries. Beyond work and gardening, she delighted in travelling, theatre, classical music, opera, reading, and sharing exquisite meals. Olive remained deeply engaged with politics and curious about the world around her until her final day.
Olive was predeceased by her husband, Roland Wickhueller; her parents, Andrew and Julia Finik; her brother, Walter Finik; and her sister, Millie Liteplo. She will be lovingly remembered for her great sense of humour, her big belly laugh, and her spirited nature by her daughter, Sharon Ramsay (Jim Bomford); her granddaughter, Lauren Ramsay; and her sister-in-law, Nadia Finik (nieces Andrea, Teresa and Vanessa), as well as other relatives and friends.
Honouring Olive’s wishes, her ashes will be scattered in the place she loved most, along the Rapides du Cheval Blanc in Pierrefonds. No service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hamiota District Health Centre Foundation (specified: “PCH/Activities”) in support of Birch Lodge, PO Box 671, Hamiota, MB, R0M 0T0, where she spent her final years.
