Olive Smith passed away peacefully at Oakview Place in Winnipeg on December 1st, 2024 at the age of 99.
Olive was born at the family farm in the RM of Hamiota. She was the youngest of 10 children born to John and Rachel Smith. Left to mourn her loss are her beloved sister Velma, 25 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews and great, great, great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her 5 sisters and their spouses: Pearl Kidd (Cecil), Rena Smtih (Earl), Eileen Tennant (Everett), Margaret Caldwell (Lorne) and Alice Johnston, her 3 brothers and their spouses: Newton (Betty), Herb (Violet) and Jack (Peggy), 3 nieces and 3 nephews.
She attended school in Crandall and Hamiota. Following completion of Grade 12, she taught on permit for one year before obtaining her Teacher’s Certificate at Normal School in Winnipeg. Her teaching career began in Hamiota, continuing in Winnipeg until her retirement.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at the Hamiota Cemetery, Hamiota, MB on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 1:30pm. Bring a lawn chair if you wish. Following the graveside service, a reception will take place in the Hamiota Community Centre.
