Lilian Martha Bowles
Lily passed away peacefully at her residence in the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn on December 21, 2023.
Lily was the second girl born on October 21, 1919 to Mabel and Bill Ewing. Her father died when she was only 1. Left with two small children to care for, their mother began housekeeping to take are of the children and met their stepfather Jim Stamford. The family grew to include two boys and four more girls. She attended Two Creeks School, Wynona School and then went on to doing some housekeeping and nanny service until she met her husband, Fred Bowles. The two were married on November 24, 1941. They were not blessed with children of their own, but numerous nieces and nephews, who remember fond times during those day and overnight visits. She enjoyed attending her nieces and nephews and the great nieces and nephews birthday parties and sports activities. She loved it when the Bowles boys got together for a music jam. She loved to garden and her yard was always immaculate. Lily and Fred farmed until they retired and built a home in Miniota. Shortly thereafter Fred became ill and passed away in 1987. Lily remained in her home until the spring of 2019, when she moved to the Elkwood Manor in Elkhorn. The staff and residents became her family and she talked about them often.
Lily will be fondly missed by her sisters Mabel Boyce, Enid Lawrence; sister in-law Pat Stamford and Ethel Bowles; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Bill Ewing, Mabel Stamford, and Jim Stamford; sisters Jessie (Ed) Mansfield, Ann (Don) Cameron, Irene (Ken) Wood; brothers Ted Stamford, Fred (Eileen) Stamford; brothers in-law Bob Boyce, Ross Lawrence, Lloyd (Margaret) Bowles, Den Bowles.
Friends and family will gather for a reception at the Miniota Community Centre, Miniota, MB on Monday, January 8, 2024 at approximately 2:30pm.
A private family graveside service will take place at the Miniota Cemetery at 2:00pm.
