Kenneth Reginald Harold Fortune passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 20, at the age of 75. Ken was the oldest son born to Edwin & Eveline Fortune of Strathclair. While developing a love for animals and the land during his formative years Ken's other interests included sports, cadets and all things mechanical. After obtaining his education at Strathclair School, Ken joined the work force. One sunny afternoon Ken met the love of his life on the raft at Salt Lake. Ken married Janis in June of 1973. Together they ran a mixed farm operation south of Strathclair. During this time they were blessed with two sons. After leaving the farm they moved to an acreage at the edge of Strathclair. It was very important to Ken to give back to his community. Between the commitment of driving the School Bus , Ken joined the Strathclair Fire Department, the Strathclair Theatre Committee, and the Strathclair Drama Club. As a founding member of the Old Iron Club , Ken enjoyed every opportunity to work with that old iron and the Threshing Demonstrations held annually. Ken did have a passion for horses and loved to ride, drive and enjoyed just "horsing around". Ken also loved to build and restore horse drawn items and antique tractors from the ground up! Travelling, golfing and camping were high on the list of things that brought him so much enjoyment. With the progression of Parkinson's Disease and then Dementia, Ken moved to Birch Lodge Personal Care Home in Hamiota. The wonderful care and compassion shown to Ken was incredible. What a wonderful blessing it was for Ken to live his remaining days at Birch Lodge. Ken will be missed by all who knew him. Ken is survived by his wife of 52 years Janis, his son Greg & Tania, Kristen (Dane), Danny (Allie), and his son Allan & Brittany, Hayden and Gunner.
A celebration of Ken's life was held at the Hamiota United Church, Hamiota, MB on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 11:00am. Following the service, a reception was held at the Hamiota Community Centre. Interment occured at the Strathclair Cemetery.
