Winston Glen Bridge passed away on October 17th at the Hamiota Health Center. Glen was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba on March 27, 1941 to Mervyn and Beryl (McLean) Bridge. He grew up on the family farm at Lavinia and attended school at Lavinia, Decker, Hamiota and Wilcox, Saskatchewan. In 1962 he enrolled in the Teacher Training course at Brandon College and taught for 3 years before returning to the family farm. In 1968 he married Fay Long of Carberry. Together they raised two sons, Jason and Darren. Glen loved farming and was very pleased when Jason wanted to continue his legacy by taking over the family farm. He had a great love for all animals and was proud when Darren became a veterinarian.
Glen was a member of the Lions Club and the Hamiota United Church. He served on the Pool Elevators Board, the Birdtail River School Division Board, the Manitoba Association of School Trustees Board and was a director of horses for the Hamiota Fair.
Glen experienced many medical issues during his life, but was always optimistic and faced each with dignity and without complaining. Glen and Fay enjoyed many great holidays together. They travelled from coast to coast in Canada, toured several US states and Mexico and enjoyed a Caribbean Cruise.
Glen was an avid reader of nonfiction, especially enjoying biographies and World War II stories. He enjoyed watching his sons' activities and later those of his grandsons. Ryan has special memories of hauling grain with Grandpa during harvest and Tyson remembers all the board and card games with lots of teasing and much laughter.
Glen was predeceased by his parents, Mervyn and Beryl Bridge, his brother, Keith, sisters- in- law Agnes Bridge and Donna Watterson and his father- in- law and mother- in- law, Morris and Kay Long. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Fay of 55 years, his son Jason and grandsons, Ryan and Tyson and his son Darren and wife, Kylie. He also leaves to mourn his passing, nephews Ryan (Lisa) Bridge, Lindsay (Sonya) Bridge, Randy Watterson and families, his niece Carla (Gero) Alongi, his brother- in- law, John, plus several cousins.
The funeral service was held at the Hamiota United Church with Rev Noel Suministrado presiding. Pallbearers were Harvey Brown, Dana Johns, Ryan Murray, Terry Robertson and Dave and Mervyn Simpson. Interment was at the Hamiota Cemetery followed by a reception at the Hamiota Community Hall.
