Jerry Sparling - or Joe to many of his Oak River friends - passed away at the Erickson Health Centre on Jan 20. Except for the past few years he lived his entire life in the community he loved - Oak River.
After leaving school he joined his parents, Clair and Gladys, in operating the family farm.
In his youth Jerry was a Boy Scout, 4 H member and a regular attendee at the United Church - an association he continued for the rest of his life there - as a member and strong bass in the choir.
Jerry will be remembered fondly by his many friends for his kindness, loyalty, gentle teasing (and occasional gruffness).
He had great enjoyment and made many friends on the country fair circuit. A highlight of his life was to attend the Toronto Royal Fair with Jack Morcom and his Clydesdales.
Jerry was proud of his Scottish heritage and had a wonderful relationship with his Rothney cousins.
He will be missed by his family, sister Lois, brothers Bill and Dennis, his nieces and nephews - especially Lauree, Lesley and Todd Armstrong who spent many happy hours with him.
