Ernest "Ernie" Stowe Obituary

Ernie John Stowe died peacefully on March 6th, 2025, at the Brandon Hospital, while on the phone with his sisters and with his longtime friend, John Elmes, at his side. Ernie was predeceased by his mom and dad, Muriel and George Stowe, and grandparents, Mabel and John Stowe and Ernest and Nellie Goodings. He was also predeceased by his niece, Cheryl Leonard.

Ernie is survived by his sisters Ernestine (Richard) Sepke, Margaret McDonald, and Millie (Ron) Leonard.  He is lovingly remembered by his four nieces, Cora (Sepke) LaPierre, Karen (Peter Wotherspoon ), Angela  (Terry Lawson), Chelsea (Andrew Fishback) and one nephew Clayton Sepke (Therese). He also leaves his great nieces and nephews, Nadage Wafi, Nelwynah and Nieander Sepke, Gabriel, Grace and Elizabeth Wotherspoon, Gemma and Callie Lawson, and Talia Fishback. He will also be missed by his godchild, Ayla Gilmer, as well as countless close friends.

Ernie had a love of life and enjoyed people, connecting new people he met with people he already knew. He was a great photographer and shot a lot of functions including his niece Karen's wedding.  He attended many Fifty 567 car club runs with Millie and Ron and later became a club member. He was an avid marksman and won many awards provincially and nationally. He loved his time at the renowned family shoots at the Poppel farm. He enjoyed riding across Canada and the States on his motorcycle, including many times to Sturgis, while making many true friends along the way. He also enjoyed planning the Stoney Creek Smoker runs at Neepawa and raising funds for the surrounding communities.

Ernie was also a master craftsman who could make anything out of anything, from a windchime made out of bullet casings to the Stowe sign that was in his yard. He even turned his storage room at his assisted living apartment into a full workshop. He loved working with his hands. He worked for Manitoba Highways for 22 years and then retired early due to his health conditions. He adapted to all his challenges with a positive attitude. Ernie truly loved his extended family, teasing the children and keeping in touch daily. He was positive to the end and will truly be missed by many.

A farewell memorial will be held on his 65th birthday, at the Miniota Community Hall, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 2 pm. Interment will take place at the Miniota Cemetery.
