ALBERTA ROSE HENNAN/BONNER (nee MUSGROVE)

Surrounded by loved ones, Alberta passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years.

Alberta was born in Shoal Lake, MB to Kathleen A. and W. Albert Musgrove. She grew up on the family farm Southwest of Shoal Lake with her four sisters Muriel, Ellen, Florence, and Pat. Alberta completed her schooling at Decker School before moving to Winnipeg where she took a position in the accounts department at Eaton’s Department Store.

Alberta met her husband Robert Bonner, and they were married October 18, 1958. They farmed north of Birtle in the Mount Joy District where they raised their three children Kimberley, Bradley, and Leslie.

Alberta worked tirelessly for many years to keep the farm running smoothly. From meals in the field, driving grain truck during harvest, growing and preserving her large garden, and many others, she was such a hard worker and there wasn’t a task she wouldn’t tackle.

Alberta loved her family and spent many hours in the rink watching the boys play hockey, or taking Kim to figure skating. She was so proud of all their achievements and was their biggest fan on the sidelines.

Alberta also had many interests which she excelled at such as sewing and curling.

Once the children had grown, she took a position working at Reid Accounting.

In 1986 Bob & Alberta retired from the farm and moved on to the next phase of their life in Winnipeg.  They were Property Managers for two different companies. Their youngest son Les and his family lived in Winnipeg, and they spent countless hours watching their grandchildren’s activities such as hockey games, baseball games, talent shows, school concerts, and once again Alberta was their biggest fan. 

16 years later, in 2002, they embraced the retired life even more by moving to their cottage at Burlington Beach. They spent many happy years entertaining children and grandchildren through swimming lessons and family gatherings, while also creating memories and adventures with their "lake" friends.

In 2008 Alberta lost her husband, Bob, after 49 years of marriage. Alberta was given a second chance of love when she married her second husband Shane. Their home was Farrington Cove on the Sunshine Coast in B.C. and spent many happy years together. 

In 2022 health plagued both Alberta and Shane, which prompted Alberta to move back to Manitoba with Les & Edie. Alberta resided at the Rossburn Personal Care Home until her passing.

Grandchildren: Jenni (Chris), Jay (Jill), Tenaya (Jordan), Kate (Austin), Rhys (Michaela), Cadeyn (Emily), Yvonne and Allyson.

Great grandchildren: Kaylie, Alexis, Riley, Odin, Anden, Logan, Declan, Grayson, Brynlee, Cori, Avery, Alexandria, Aizik, Brielle, Kane, Skylar, Sierra and Ashley.

Also, sisters Florence Strachan and Pat Beech and many nieces and nephews. 

Alberta was predeceased by her two husbands Shane and Bob, son Brad, her parents Kathleen & Bert, Bob’s parents Elrie & Josephine Bonner, sister Catherine, sister and husband Muriel & Johnny Mast, sister and husband Ellen & Frank Rosenberger, brother-in-law Harold Strachan & Wilf Beech, sister-in-law & husband Bernice & George Graham, sister-in-law & husband Peggy & Norman Dearle, sister-in-law & husband Millie & Alen Hansen, sister-in-law & husband Connie & Elmer Ryan. 

Alberta was a wonderful person, and we will feel a great void without her. We are grateful for many fond memories that we will hold close to our heart.

At Alberta’s request cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.

Donations can be made in her memory to The Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
