Heather Rothnie Obituary

The family of Heather Gale Rothnie are saddened to announce her passing on May 25, 2019 at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, MB.  Heather was the only daughter born into the family of William & Georgina Rothnie of Hamiota, MB on October 24, 1952.  She took all of her schooling in Hamiota & went on to Brandon University, where she completed her Bachelor of Teaching, with a major in special education.  Her first teaching job was at Decker Hutterite Colony in 1973.  Then she moved to Kenton and Miniota Schools in 1998, splitting her time between the two schools.  In 2002, she became full time at Kenton School, until her retirement in 2012, after 40 years of teaching.  Her students & "school families" were very important to her & a big part of her life.  She also served as a councillor for the Village of Hamiota for 8 years.  She was also a member of Hamiota Garden Club, the Hamiota Fair Board, the Library Board, Midwest Recreation, Hamiota Community Hall, Park Residence & Hamiota Lions Club.  In 2015, due to health complications, her life as she knew it, changed dramatically.  In 2016, she became a resident at Valleyview Care Centre in Brandon.

She was predeceased by her Father in 1958, her Mother in 1968, & her brother, Wayne, in 2009.  She will be lovingly remembered by her family.  Her brother Edwin & wife Betty-Ann of Hamiota, MB & children Teresa Gosnold (husband Kirk, Kaden), Brenda Hagan (husband Owen, Cameryn, Connor & Avah), Bradley (wife Amy), Tricia Long (husband Daniel, Caleb, Sienna, Oli, Jorja, Ruby & Charlie) & Derek (wife Andrea, Asher & Aria).  Her Sister-in-law Ann, of Oak River, MB & children Shawn (wife Teresa, Haile & Eric), Jason, & Tammie Hauck (husband Kirk).  Her brother Donald & wife Allison of Smoky Lake, AB & children Andrew (wife Karla, William) & Jamie Auclair (husband Alex).
