A few days short of his 84th birthday (March 28, 1932), Erik Henry Hurlin of Miniota, Manitoba, passed away quietly in his sleep on March 16th 2016 at Morley House Nursing Home in Shoal Lake.  Erik with a ‘k’ is survived by his wife, Mary, of 56 years, two sons, Bill (Sheryl) and Rick (Wendy) and 9 grandchildren – Ryley, Shelby, Sarah, Katherine, James, Christian, Elizabeth, Andrew and Luke.  He is also survived by two sisters-in-law Pat and Sharon (Bob) and many nieces and nephews.  Erik was predeceased by his father William, mother Doris, brother Bill and sisters – Irene, Barbara and Sheila.

Erik was born and raised in Miniota where he attended school and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Miniota Community Center and Town Council.  As proprietor of the “Inn” for 43 years, this was his pride and joy.

He loved fishing, but never seemed to find the time to do it regularly.  Growing up, Erik learned from his father that if he needed or wanted something, the best way to get it was to make it himself. From garden tractors to small equipment, a houseboat (the “Mardy Jane”) and finally, his retirement home and beautiful yard.  He was always fixing or building something in his beloved shop.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Miniota Community Hall at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday April 30th 2016, to be followed by a tea.  An internment will be held for family members at the Miniota Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba,

10 – 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4G2.
